The New Medicine Service (NMS)
The New Medicine Service is a free NHS service offered by your pharmacy to help you understand your condition and get the most out of your new medicine.
This service is available if you have been prescribed a new medicine for certain conditions, including:
Asthma and COPD
Type 2 diabetes
High blood pressure or high cholesterol
Heart conditions (e.g. atrial fibrillation, heart failure, coronary heart disease)
Blood-thinning medicines (anticoagulants and antiplatelets)
Other long-term conditions
During the service, our pharmacist will:
Help you understand how your new medicine works
Provide advice on how and when to take it
Support you with any side effects or concerns
Answer your questions and offer reassurance
Help you get the best results from your treatment
This support can help you manage your condition more effectively and may reduce the need for GP or hospital visits.
